After almost 10 incredible weeks of exploring Europe it was time to make our way to the Far East. So we boarded our FinnAir flight through Helsinki and 5,709 miles later we arrived in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

Besides the moderately acceptable seats, we were also fortunate enough to catch a pretty nice sunset and then sunrise along the way!
Over 9.5 million people call Bangkok home, and for the next few nights it was going to be our home too. We decided that with all of the Airbnb roughing it that we’d been doing for the past few months that it was time to take a couple days off and let someone else do all the work…thank you Marriott points.

One night in Bangkok and the world’s your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain’t free

After a fun night out including our first of many tuk-tuk rides, Tara & the kids decided to take advantage of a low key day at the hotel pool while I took in some temple hopping. My first stop was Wat Pho, known also as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.
Completed in the 16th century, the temple includes a 150 foot long reclining Buddha and contains the largest collection of Buddha images anywhere in Thailand.

After a short hop across the river my next stop was to Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. Now technically it’s recommended that you visit Was Arun during the first light of morning or at night…but since beggars can’t be choosers I enjoyed the middle of a rain-soaked afternoon.

After a day of rest and some more of Bangkok’s incredibly cheap and amazingly good street food, we got back in the saddle for a night out on Khao San Road.

Before departing Bangkok the family endured one more temple run…this time through the expansive grounds of the Grand Palace.
All is all our visit to Bangkok was pretty quick…but it absolutely exceeded our expectations.

I am in love with all those ancient buildings, beautiful what man can do.
Thank you, and enjoy this incredible journey! (Any more elephants?)
Love to all,

Yup, but only the claws and a few legs…that was enough local delicacy for me. As for the elephants we had so many pics from our outing that we’re putting together a separate post just for them!

Avoided the scorpions on a stick while I was in China because a few of them were still moving…this one couldn’t bite me back!
